A Dream, a few Vodkas and three Haikus

I never was the best poet. I was puzzled by everyones poetry and everyone was puzzled by mine, and so I have diligently stuck with prose. Tonight however, my restraint being utterly overwhelmed by the spirit of the season, the memory of a dream, and a flirtatious bottle of Vodka in which I have overindulged, I have dared to scribble these three haikus - in the conviction that I cannot possibly be a worse poet tipsy - to describe what I felt when I dreamt a dream in January, pursued it till October, and subsequently watched it dashed to the rocks.

Try to be humane with your comments.

The birth of a dream

First notes of a tune.

.........Wreathed grandly in dips and tones,

.........is a heart in bloom.

The pursuit of a dream

A mind sore anxious.

Heartbeats a wild percussion.

To be or not to?

The death of a dream

Cheeks charted by springs

.....flowing in step with a dirge,

.........streaked by a dark grief.

PS - My awesome voice is up on geisha's blog.

PPS- I'm waiting for your reply to my emails Standtall!

First of all, I appreciate you marking my wall :)

Second of all, I heard your singing on Geisha's blog! OhMiGod, you are talented!!! Very nice voice which is very rare in computer geeks (I should know, I am one :))

Thirs, I actually enjoyed your haikus. The formatting even helped with the story. Good job!

p.s: I like people who like Anime. :)

thnx for stopping by my blog...

the haikus werent that bad...liked them actually..off to Geisha's, to go listen..

Anna Lefler said... 24 December 2008 23:52

Verrry nice and I'm not just sayin' that, either. Haiku is tricky, in my opinion. I think it's especially tricky to get real emotion into so few beats and words, but you did that and more.

Lovely.

Hope you're having a swell holiday season and hope 2009 brings you all that you wish for (and more).

:^) Anna

This poem seems straight from the heart

Vera Ezimora said... 25 December 2008 10:35

I agree with Ms. Sula. The formatting certainly helped somehow. I liked them o. Pretty darn good. I used to write somethings I called poems. I have since woken up and smelt the coffee. I have chosen to stick to prose. Poetry is not my cup of tea abeg. When I read some of the things I wrote, I weep.

StandTall-The Activist said... 25 December 2008 10:50

And care to share the dream with your Paddy?

Danny Bagucci said... 25 December 2008 14:15

First time here and liked everything I read. Your sincerity brought smiles to my face off and on.

doug said... 26 December 2008 21:18

@Standtall: Indeed it is. I shall send you an email telling you what it was about. Unless I forget of course.

@Vera: Yeah, like I said, I formatted it that way on purpose. It was an idea I found on some site where I read a haiku. Lol! Really I thought the same too, but it appears I'm not as terrible as I had thought. Why don't you 'risk' putting your poetry up and lets see if you're giving yourself as much credit as you ought to.

@Danny: why thank you Don Bagucci! But unfortunately I have not the courage to go on stage :(. How was Christmas bruv?

@Buki: Tell me, what country are you in now Mrs. Ajala? lol. When I grow up I want to be like you o! Jetsetting every so often...thats the life! And thanks for both compliments! How was Christmas?

@Funms: You're the only person who prefers the first one. We have that in common. Everyone else is taken by the sorrow in the last. lol. Thanks a million for the compliment Funms. Was a confidence boost...for real. How was Christmas?

@exschoolnerd: Danke much!!! Didnt think it was all that really! Perhaps I underestimate myself. How was christmas? Happy New Year in advance!!!

@mizchif: You're on! You've just awoken the twin tails of the blue lotus dragon of Wang Sao Ming. Wutaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!

@Walking: Aww thanks! Great to have you here! Hope you come back!!!!! My sincerity? How far back did you read?

StandTall-The Activist said... 27 December 2008 12:46
